Why sleep alone when you have someone to snuggle with during your camping trips? I know it may be hard because of those tiny sleeping bags where only you can fit, but that’s why having the best double sleeping bag is the answer. You can snuggle with your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, kids, or even your dogs. Even if you don’t want to snuggle with someone inside the sleeping bag, you can at least stretch out your arms and legs and enjoy all that extra space.
Qualities Of A Sleeping Bag
There are a lot of double sleeping bags you can find on the market so it may be difficult to figure out which one to get. In this article, we’re going to go through some of the types and the qualities of a sleeping bag to help give you an idea of what you may want or need in your sleeping bag.
1. Temperature Rating and Bag Type
When we talk about temperature rating, this is the lowest temperature that the sleeping bag can be used in to keep you warm – but this is assuming that you are wearing relatively warm clothes already.
Most sleeping bags will have a temperature range of 15°F up to 50°F, but sometimes you’ll even find sleeping bags with temperature ratings of -5°F. But these are the general temperature ratings of sleeping bags according to REI.com
TIP: Try to find out what the lowest temperature can be in the place you are camping in, then pick a sleeping bag with a temperature rating a bit lower than that. This way, you can be sure to stay warm at all times
3. Insulation and Liners
There are a variety of different materials used for insulation and lining and which you choose depends on the temperature of where you are going to camp in.
Insulation material can generally be divided into two – Down insulation and synthetic insulation.
When it comes to sleeping bag liners, there is also a lot of variety. Some of the commonly used liner materials are:
3. The Extra
There are some extra features of a sleeping bag that you can look for. Though they may not always be important, they can add a little more value to your sleeping bag. Some useful extra features include:

Top 5 Best Double Sleeping Bags Available Today
While there are plenty of sleeping bags available, these are five of my favorite
double sized sleeping bags. They vary in material and temperature rating so you
can select on based on where you are planning to camp and what the weather
will be like there.
#1 Teton Sports Mammoth Queen Sized Sleeping Bag
Let’s start the list with this sleeping bag from Teton Sports. Teton Sports is known for making sleeping bags, backpacks, tents, cots, camp pads, and other accessories for your outdoor adventures.
This sleeping bag is 94” x 62” when spread wide which is slightly wider than a queen-size mattress and weighs only 16.5lbs when packed. Its shell is made of taffeta while the liner is made of 100% brushed poly flannel. It has a temperature rating of 20°F making it great for cold weather. It also comes with a free compression sack.
#2 Abco Tech Double Sleeping Bag
This sleeping bag from Abco Tech can withstand temperatures of 5°F making it great for autumn camping. It has a polyester shell and a poly green lining. It is 87” x 60” and weighs about 10lbs. The sleeping bag also comes with two small pillows you can use as a bonus.
#3 Coleman Tandem 3-In- 1 Tall Sleeping bag
This next product comes from the ever-popular Coleman. It is meant for temperatures of about 30°F to 50°F and can fit two people that are up to 6ft. 2inches tall (1.88m). It can be zipped apart to create two separate sleeping bags and also comes with a stuff sack to store it away. It is 81” x 66” in size and weighs about 9.5lbs.
#4 Sportneer 0°F Sleeping Bag
This sleeping bag has a hollow fiber insulation and a temperature rating of 0°F making it great for use during your cold weather camping. It also has an adjustable mummy hood to keep you extra warm. Its shell is made of taffeta and the lining is made of cotton flannel making it more rugged and durable. It is 90” x 62” in size and can fit 2-3 people. It also comes with a free compression pack.
#5 Grizzly by Black Pine 2-Person Sleeping Bag
This sleeping bag from Black Pine is a two-person sleeping bag that can withstand temperatures of -25°F to 25°F. The shell is made of cotton duck canvas but is also available in polyester. It has a flannel lining and hollow microfiber insulation for extra warmth during winter camping trips. It is 90” x 65” in size and weighs 17.5lbs.
When comparing these five products, my favorite would have to be the double sleeping bag from Abco Tech with the Coleman sleeping bag coming close in second place. This is because they both can separate into two individual sleeping bags so it’s like you get more value for your money. If you are camping on your own, you can just take one piece, or if you’re camping with your boy/girl friend, you can assemble it together and turn it into the double sleeping bag.
The sleeping bag from Abco Tech has a very high quality and yet it is the most price friendly of these five bags. While it may not be great for very cold conditions, it is also the lightest one to carry and fits into the carry bag without any trouble at all. But with a temperature of 5°F, that’s good enough for me during the colder (but not winter) months. I also love the idea of the two free pillows – again, more value for your money!
