Have you noticed that it is starting to get cold outside? That’s because autumn is here and winter is near, so it’s time to dig through your closet for your “clothes to survive the cold”. While it may not be as cold as actual wintertime, it can get pretty chilly, so it is important to know what to wear in 50-degree-C weather so you feel warm and cozy when you go out.
The last time I tried to go out during this chilly weather without any protection, I ended up with a cold for a week.
While the perception of “50 degrees” varies from place to place, where some still consider it warm while others are feeling the cold, picking the exact outfit to wear will depend highly on you. But still, here are some ideas to help you with what to wear so you don’t get sick and feel as warm as possible.
A light windbreaker is perfect for when you know you’ll be on the go like when you need to run some errands. It will help protect your body from the chilly air but it is light enough not to make you sweat too much when you’re out and about.
Since it is light, you can fold it up and put it in your bag when you feel warmer, or even just tie it around your waist. You can pair it with some leggings and a fitted t-shirt and some sneakers for a casual, active look. Colombia has a cute one in bright pink and violet, perfect with black leggings and a black top for that extra pop of color.
Duster Or Cardigan
A duster is like an extra long version of a cardigan or a lightweight version of a raincoat. It usually goes all the way down below the knees and even to the ankles, but both are usually made of a relatively thin material that varies anywhere from cotton to wool. What you choose depends on how cold you actually feel. They can go with basically anything so you can get creative.Like a windbreaker, both are light enough to keep you warm but not too thick to make you sweat.
Another go-to for 50-degree-C weather is a vest. A vest will not only give you the extra warmth you need but it can add extra style to your outfit. You can pair it with a sweater. There are all kinds available with different material, styles, and colors. You can browse for some on Amazon.
A poncho is a must-have for fall this 2016. A poncho as been around as early as 500 B.C. by the Native Americans and is identified as part of both Native American and Mexican cultures.
Today it is a fashion staple for fall to help you keep warm. Ponchos can help when it starts to get really cold outside since it is usually made out of knitted wool. As an added style bonus, you can combine it with a turtleneck sweater for a cuter look, or you can get the ones that are made with a turtleneck already.
Of course, we can’t forget the scarf. This can be worn over virtually anything and will give your outfit an extra pop. As an added bonus, it can even serve as a blanket to help keep you warmer when it gets extra cold outside. With so many kinds of scarves available, you won’t have a hard time looking for one to match any outfit you’re going to wear.
Boots are not only stylish but they can help keep your legs warm. You can wear it over jeans or leggings if you’re feeling really cold. But if you actually want to show off your legs a bit or you don’t feel too cold, boots can be perfect with a dress, mini skirt or shorts. You can pair a mini skirt with over the knee boots for some major style points or wear some hiking boots with shorts.
Like many of our pieces here, lighter pants will do a good job keeping your legs warm but won’t be too thick when the weather gets hotter or you start to sweat from moving around all day.Layers – the key is to layer. Wear some lighter clothes like light jeans and a thin shirt and then top them off with thicker pieces like a cardigan and a thick wooly scarf. That way, you can take pieces off or put them on as needed. That way, your outfit becomes not only stylish but flexible on your needs as well.
Balance – adding to the layers, a good tip is to strike a balance. If you feel like the weather will fluctuate or you’ll be going indoors and outdoors constantly, you need to balance things out. The same goes if you want to show off one part of your body.
If you still want to wear shorts or a dress, you can wear boots or you can wear something thicker as a top so that the upper part of your body stays warm like a thicker cardigan or duster.
If you want to wear only a t-shirt or short sleeve, choose one with a thicker material like knitted wool or wear thicker pants and scarf so you have coverage if you need it. Fall can be a fun time to play with your style since you can add as many layers and get creative in ways you can’t really do during the summer. Just remember to stay warm and think about what you will really need to help you stay comfortable. Do you have more fall fashion outdoor tips?
